Client Onboarding Wizard integration

The Updater can be integrated into the client onboarding wizard, that is available with 7.8.1. To enable the download, you need to enable the according scenario. Edit /opt/open-xchange/etc/client-onboarding-scenarios.yml and get to the oxupdaterinstall section, where you have to set the enabled property to true.

The old download section and portal widget stay available by default. To deactivate the download section, add io.ox/core//settings/downloadsDisabled = true to /opt/open-xchange/etc/settings/appsuite.properties. The portal widget can be disabled as described in this guide. The widget in question is io.ox/portal/widget/updater.

Functioning

Client application is launched on PC that is to be updated

  • Depending on the settings (automatically or manually) the Updater loads a small XML file

that contains information of available packages on the server

  • Then, the Updater synchronizes the information with the already installed programs via the MSI database integrated in Windows
  • The user will be informed about new updates via a „balloontip“ (and an animated tray icon)

If wanted, specific updates can be hidden or skipped by the user. There will be no notification about this update until there is a newer version or until the user removes the update from the „blacklist“.

  • For further information about an update click on More Information...
  • After having selected the updates they are downloaded and installed:
  • The installation automatically starts after the download.

The context menu of the tray icon contains the following functions:

  • Quit: Leaves the program
  • About OXUpdater: Opens the About dialog
  • Settings: Opens the Settings dialog
  • Check now: Updates the update information (regardless of the selected update interval)
  • First line: Shows the number of available updates. When clicking on it the updates dialog opens that displays the single updates.

Further information and screenshots regarding settings, can be found in the User Manual of the Open-Xchange Client Updater
